Oracle Streams
Chapter 4 - Capture and Propagate Configuration

Capture Creation - Using add_schema_rules procedure

connect STRMADM/STRMADM@dnytst10
PROMPT Connected to Source (DNYTST10)
PROMPT Starting the Capture Process at source DNYTST10
begin
dbms_capture_adm.start_capture (capture_name => 'NY2_CAPTURE' ) ;
end ;/

The source schema is now ready for replication to the destination schema.

The next section will present yet another method by which the Capture process can be created.

Capture Creation – Using create_capture procedure

In this method, the create_capture procedure of dbms_capture package is used to configure the Capture process. This method provides a flexible method of creation and configuration.

Why use this method when there is such simple creation procedure as the ones presented in earlier sections?  It is because the create_capture procedure:

  • gives the Streams administrators fine control over the process of capture creation and setting up of start_scn and first_scn values.

  • helps to design custom made rules and rules sets.

  • helps to specify required start_scn and first_scn for the Capture stream.

  • helps to configure the Capture process at the Down Streams database also.
