OCP Instructors Guide for
Oracle DBA Certification
Chapter 1 - Getting
Started
Conclusion
We also
learned the importance of education and becoming certified. Oracle
certifications, once known as something “nice to have”, are becoming
job requirements. The key to successful test taking is to
understand the requirements of the test and study, study, study. I
have seen administrators with years of experience fail entry-level
certification tests because of a lack of preparation.
One final thought bears repeating. "The
hallmark of a being a good DBA is not knowing everything, but
knowing where to look when you don't." Read the Oracle manuals and
trust the information they provide. They contain virtually
everything you need to know to successfully administer an Oracle
database. Only after becoming well versed in the documentation
should you begin reading third-party offerings.
In the next chapter, we will learn that an
application is only as good as the database architecture that it
runs on. Chapter two starts with an in-depth discussion of the
three most popular operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX) and ends
with an operating system comparison table.
