Chapter 3 - Installation and Database Creation
A Word on Silent Installation
Continuing the review of the installation
prerequisites, necessary inputs to the checking process are
listed in the prerequisite.xml file located in the oraInventory/logs directory. After the checker is run, its
results, along with the pre-defined inputs, are written to the
prerequisite_results.xml file in the same location. The
prerequisite_results.xml file can be reused as an input
file for later executions of the checker process.
Regardless of the platform being used,
minimum system requirements exist:

A minimum of 512 MB of memory

Sufficient paging Space and
Disk space
-
Operating system with
up-to-date service packs or patches
-
Correct file system format
The installer software will adjust any
operating system variables needed for the Oracle database server.
The OUI will provide guidance through a series of questionnaires and
accept responses on software installation and database creation. The following
questions apply to all the platforms.
What Database Product Do You Want to
Install?
Oracle Enterprise Edition – Oracle’s full
featured database product with all bells and whistles for
high-end applications.
Oracle Standard Edition - A scaled down,
less expensive version of the enterprise edition for
departmental level applications.
Custom Install - This choice allows for the
customization of the Enterprise edition installation by electing
to install or prevent installation of certain components.
