Real World Case: Scamming the Scammers
The quality of these fake checks is amazing,
and they look very convincing, right down to the smallest detail.
Conning the con-artists can be risky, and Ms.
Goweler is a very brave woman. There is always the concern that a
scammer may determine where she lives. In one hilarious message, the
scammer threatened to report Ms. Goweler to the FBI:
Brian,
Thank you for your condolences. It was very
quick and unexpected. I have been drinking my sorrows away all day.
I think I have drank all of the booze in the house by now. I guess I
will have to go to town after a bit and buy some more. A good thing
did come out of all this though, we learned a valuable lesson. Never
stick a fork in the toaster no matter how bad you want that last Pop
Tart.
Anyway, I have attached the copy of the Western
Union receipt for you. I hope I have done it right. After all I am
very drunk and don’t know much about computers. Please tell me if it
