Cyber Law and Harassment
Violations of this section of the Arizona statute will
usually be categorized as a misdemeanor. Stalking cases are
generally comprised of activities defined under the law as
harassment. The Arizona revised statute 13-2923 defines stalking in
the following terms:
“Would cause
a reasonable person to fear for the person’s safety or the safety of
that person’s immediate family member and that person in fact fears
for their safety or the safety of that person’s immediate family
member.
Would cause a
reasonable person to fear death of that person or that person’s
immediate family member and that person in fact fears death of that
person or that person’s immediate family member.”
A person experiencing problems along these
lines would benefit greatly from a brief study of the law as it
applies to these situations. Doing so will make it less difficult
to determine when harassment has become stalking as defined under
the law.
Many states make these and other laws a matter
of public knowledge on their official state websites. Locating the
website for any state can be easily accomplished by using an
Internet search engine such as
www.google.com. A
person interested in California state law for example, might use
Google to search for “State CA Gov”. Another useful resource is The
Library of Congress State and Local Governments list located at
www.loc.gov/global/state.
