Oracle DBA Certification
Chapter 1 - Getting
Started
Book Recommendations
Who do I
think has the greatest ability to transfer technical information to
the reader? Craig Mullins is a well-known DB2 expert and author of
the DB2 Developer’s Guide. Craig has just written one of my
favorite administration books of all time, Database
Administration – The Compete Guide to Practices and Procedures.
This book covers all databases and WILL make you a better DBA. Don’t
worry that Craig is an expert in a competing product, he is not just
a DB2 expert, Craig is one of the few people I know that are
qualified to be a true database expert.
Conclusion
In this chapter, we learned that becoming an
Oracle DBA is much more than being a “table jockey”. We now know
database administrators plays a pivotal role in the IT organization
and are involved in all aspects of the application development
process. The DBA of today must have a strong understanding of the
business processes as well as the technical intricacies of the
Oracle environment to be successful. The DBA is truly the conduit
between the business personnel that use the application and the
technical units that support them. The administrator is able to
discuss complex business topics with application developers and
business users and then switch to “techno jargon” to discuss
in-depth technical issues with infrastructure support units.
