Chapter 3 - Installation and Database Creation
Installation of Oracle Software and
Database
Specify Inventory Directory – a
directory for installation files and OS group with write
permissions to that directory. This is different from ORACLE_HOME, discussed later. Select Next to continue
A dialog page appears asking
that oraInst.sh be run as root in a separate window. Run
this and return to OUI page. Select Continue.
Specify File Locations is the
next page where
the
Oracle Home
name and directory path to install the software
are entered. If
there is
already
an existing
installation on the server, choose a different name and path for
the new installation. Select Continue.
Select Enterprise Edition or
Standard Edition or Custom Install. Select Continue.
Select the type of
pre-configured database to be installed – General Purpose or
Transaction Processing or Data Warehouse. Do not choose
Advanced. Select Continue.
Specify that a starter database
is desired – or it will be necessary to run DBCA again after the
installation is completed.
On the following screens,
specify database choices for the installation - Global database
name and SID, database character set (choose default) and
database management choices.
For database management, choose
"Use Database Control for
Database Management".
Choose Database Storage as
discussed before.
Make selections for backup and
recovery options - Enable automatic backups into a recovery
area.
