Disk I/O Tuning
Chapter 2:
SCSI
Interfaces
There
is a large command set that melds the multiple SCSI implementations
together and forms their foundation. As of SCSI-3, these commands
are grouped under the following designations:
-
The SCSI Block Commands (SBC) (Hard Disk Interface Commands).
In essence, these commands are designed for working with
devices that access data in a non-sequential way. There is also
a "reduced" subset of commands related to this (RBC).
-
SCSI Stream Commands for tape drives (SSC). As opposed to SBC,
this command set works with sequential data devices.
-
SCSI Controller Commands for RAID arrays (SCC).
-
Multimedia Commands (MMC) for devices such as DVD drives.
-
SCSI Graphics Commands for printers (SGC).
-
Media Changer Commands (SMC) for hardware such as CD-ROM
jukeboxes.
-
Enclosure Services Commands (SES)
-
Object-based Storage Device (OSD)
-
Management Server Commands (MSC)
