Oracle10g Grid Computing
with RAC
Chapter 17 -
Oracle’s Grid Integration Technologies
Introduction
In
this chapter, we will discuss Oracle’s database technologies and
utilities that integrate the database with Grid Architecture and
provide extensions to the grid framework. Oracle’s Grid Architecture
deals with large numbers of computing resources such as the servers,
storage units, and client connections. There are various demand and
supply situations in terms of resource consumption. Oracle’s focus
is on providing the database processing power to the ultimate
consumers. It is usually a service based architecture where a
service is demanded by the consumers. As the demand for database
processing service grows up, the automatic provisioning of
additional servers and database computing entities takes care of the
demand and supply.
Oracle also provides a sophisticated work load management, which
makes it possible for the users or applications to share database
resources. Based on the work load pattern changes, the automatic
shifting of resources from less priority activities to the more
important user needs takes place. When needed, Database
Administrators can also provision more servers to the application to
handle increased load.
